A 32″ LCD always (I think) has a extra inches so therefore you’ll get 33″ or 34″.

To your question now, yes the games will look brilliant on a LCD HDTV.

I use my 34″ LG FullHD HDTV and they’re awesome.

Most PS3 games are 720p but will be upscaled to 1080p.

At 40″ you should consider the 6 series from Samsung. That would be the LN40B650 (or 640 or 630, whatever they are using right now). That would give you 120Hz refresh rate.

While 40″ – 46″ is right in the grey area, if you’re looking for a more superior image, you want the extra refresh rate still. Some consumer and guru guides will insist on advanced features like that once you break 40″. Others say you have more flexibility in that range and don’t have to go high end until you break 50″. So its debated. Personally, I would look to go 6 series once I hit 40″.

Unless you’ll be sitting 8ft or further away. Then the 5 series you have listed might be okay. The further you are away the less likely you’ll notice the motion blur problems inherent to LCDs. So then you don’t need the 120Hz to help compensate. But if you’re going to be closer, then you do need it to help hide the LCD flaw.

The picture should look much better compared to the old and fat tv`s. But one thing when you have that new tv that you set the video out to 720p or whatever the tv may take it in. In other words use abit time configuring the video and audio out so you get optimal performance and your money’s worth.

If you want clear and bright pictire, then LED should be your choice. However if you want deeper black levels with good 3d (3d is optional), then you can go for Plasma TVs. With your budget, you can go for high end 40 inch TVs with 3d too!. Among available brands, I would sugesst Samsung C7000 or Sony HX800 among LEDs. In plasma, its the top end Panasonic model that stands out (best 3d but picture is dull as compared to LEDs).

If you watch sports and this tv is only a 60HZ you will notice blur motion on fast action movement. For gaming if the response time is around the 6ms you will also notice a lag time from picture and sound. LCD tvs are more sensitive to pressure on the screen than a Plasma tv. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs along with the pro and con on both technology. Plasma is still considered having the best best picture quality than the LCD or LED tvs. You will also notice that Panasonic has a tv recommended in each price category of entry level to the high end, while Samsung, Sony and Toshiba (just recently had one tv, Jan. issue) does not. Other brands like LG, Sharp, Sanyo and Vizio did not even get mentioned. Hope this will help you out. The picture quality you will get from LCD is not going to be bad, it is brighter in picture than a Plasma. With basic cable you can still get HD program from stations like ABC, CBS and NBC. Hope this will help you out.
